Abort73 and MySpace

There is no denying the rapid and widespread cultural impact of MySpace.com, particularly among young people, and I've seen first hand the potential that MySpace has to influence its members about abortion. Because of that potential, and because of the vast virtual networks that are already in place, I've decided to add Abort73 to the MySpace membership -- > MySpace.com/Abort73. In one sense this decision might seem like a no brainer, and it has certainly been suggested by many of you for quite some time now. In reality, though, this was a decision that I've wrestled with because I know from direct observation and from my experience working with high school students that MySpace is a dangerous place for anyone trying to guard their hearts and minds against immorality. Immodesty abounds, both in the ad content and in many of the member photos. If you're not already on MySpace, I'd say don't bother, you're probably better off investing your time and energies into other things. For those of you who do spend time on MySpace, be careful. Ask yourself, honestly, why you're there. Are you encouraging your "virtual" friends towards righteousness and proclaiming the great name of Jesus Christ, or are you just wasting your time with empty chatter while being exposed to all manner of questionable content and imagery?
Ultimately, MySpace, like the internet itself, has great potential but also great danger. It must be used (if at all) with discernment, and always and only for the glory of God. That is why I'm moving forward on this, and praying that the Abort73 page on MySpace will influence hundreds of thousands (or even millions) of students about abortion. I'm anxious to see how this move will affect our overall traffic, and I hope that those of you who do have MySpace accounts will invite me to be your friend and will start using the new Abort73 resources in your own profiles. There are a lot of "MySpacers" out there who desperately need to know the truth about abortion, and I pray this decision will go a long way towards educating them with boldness and love.
