In the full report )http://www.thelancet.com/journals/lancet/article/PIIS014067360761575X/abstract), there is no valid explanation of how the abortion rates in developing countries where abortion is illegal were obtained.  Those countries do not have mandated reporting, and abortion is illegal.  There is no possible way for any valid data to be collected.  Several subreferences into the report some information is given about how the numbers were made up, literally made up.  In some cases a single hospital study of anecdotal evidence is extrapolated to the whole country, and then in surrounding countries the same numbers are used.  These number are meaningless because the data is nonexistent.
